So, you’re thinking about booking your first wax? 👀
First of all YEY! Whether you’re curious, fed up of shaving, or just fancy trying something new, you’re in safe (and experienced!) hands here.

Now, I know the idea of your first wax can feel a little… intimidating. You might be wondering:
Will it hurt?
What do I wear?
Is it going to be super awkward?

Take a deep breath, let’s go through it. Here’s exactly what to expect before, during and after your first wax. No fluff, just the facts.

Before Your Appointment

  1. Let it grow.
Hair needs to be about the length of a grain of rice (around 0.5cm) for wax to grip it. If you’ve been shaving, wait at least 3 weeks before your appointment. Yes, even if it’s driving you mad. It’ll be worth it, I promise!
  2. Exfoliate gently a day or two beforehand. Nothing too scrubby or aggressive, just enough to lift dead skin cells and prep the area. We 100% recommend Ruff Stuff body scrub as it is amazing. You can pick up a pot in the salon.
  3. Skip the moisturiser on the day of your wax. Clean, dry skin is best for the wax to stick properly.
  4. Wear loose, comfy clothes – trust me, you’ll thank me afterwards.

During Your Wax

Here’s the biggie and let me reassure you: it’s way less scary than you think.

  • You’ll be welcomed into the salon with a warm hello and zero judgement. This is a safe, friendly space where every body is treated with respect.
  • We’ll have a chat about what you’re having done, go through your consultation form. answer any questions and talk through any worries or
  • Then it’s time to get ready. You will be asked undress as needed. For intimate waxing it’s knickers or pants OFF. I know, I know it feels a like a lot but I promise give it a couple of minutes and you’ll forget that your lying there naked from the waist down. We do it this way as it allows us to work on multiple areas at once . Trust us on this one, it’s for the best and you don’t go to the hairdressers and leave your hat on do you?
  • I’ll prep the skin and get started. (We’ll keep everything super relaxed, have a chat and maybe even a bit of a giggle!)
  • I use high quality wax and expert technique to make things as smooth (literally) and quick as possible.

Yes, there may be some discomfort, especially the first time BUT it’s brief and most clients are surprised by how quick it actually is. You’ll be in and out before you know it!

Aftercare: The Golden Rules

  1. Avoid hot baths, heavy workouts, tight clothes, sunbathing (this includes sunbeds), spray tans AND shenanigans (I know I’m sorry) for 24 hours. Let your skin chill.
  2. Moisturise daily and exfoliate gently 2–3 times a week with your Ruff Stuff Scrub to help prevent any irritation when the hairs start to grow back through and ton help prevent in grown hairs.
  3. Book your next wax in 4–6 weeks to stay in rhythm with your hair growth cycle this is where the magic really happens. Over time, hair grows back softer, finer and slower.

One Last Thing…

It’s totally normal to feel nervous but you’re not alone. I’ve waxed thousands of clients and I promise you, there’s nothing I haven’t seen. My job is to make you feel comfortable, cared for and confident every step of the way.

So if you’re thinking about it – do it! Your future smooth self will thank you.
