Right, let’s talk about a question I get asked all the time…

Lisa, how long does my hair need to be before I can book in for a wax?”

And my answer? Probably longer than you think.
Let’s break it down 👇

The Magic Length: Around 0.5cm (or a Grain of Rice)

That’s right, hair needs to be about the length of a grain of rice (around half a centimetre) for the wax to grip it properly. Any shorter and it’s a bit like trying to pick up cooked spaghetti with chopsticks, frustrating, messy and not very effective!

So, if you’ve been shaving, you’ll need to leave the hair alone for at least 3 weeks before your appointment. Yep. I know it’s hard. I know you’ll want to reach for the razor But PUT IT DOWN. That extra week or two makes a huge difference.

What Happens If Its Too Short?

Honestly?

  • The wax won’t be able to grab the hair properly
  • You’ll get patchy results
  • You’ll probably need to come back sooner for a tidy-up
  • You might feel more discomfort because the wax has to go over the same area more than once

And we don’t want that, do we?

What If Its Too Long?

Good news thats not really a problem! If the hair is a little longer than ideal (say, 1.5–2cm), I can trim it for you in the salon before we start. So don’t stress if you’ve let it grow wild, I’d rather you err on the longer side than go in with the clippers and make it too short.

Seriously, I’ve seen it all – no need to be embarrassed.

My Smooth Tips

  • Dont trim it yourself I know you think you are helping but I promise you that’s not the case.
  • NO shaving between appointments, it interrupts your hair growth cycle and makes waxing less effective long term
  • If you’re unsure, send me a message! I’m always happy to advise

Be Patient, Be Smooth

The truth is, the first wax is just the start. Once you’re in a good routine and your hair growth is more consistent, everything gets smoother, literally and figuratively!

So, give it time to grow, trust the process, and remember stubble today means smoother tomorrow ✨
